    Description

EAPG RIVERSIDE GLASS AMETHYST GOLD DÉCOR. CROESUS WATER SET PITCHER 5 TUMBLERS
A beautiful 6 piece set of hand-made early American pattern glass (EAPG) in the form of a large water pitcher or tankard and 5 water tumblers.
    It was made by the
Riverside Glass Works formerly of Wellsburg, West Virginia and the pattern is Riverside’s # 484 Croesus.
All are made in an amethyst colored glass and are quality pieces of pressed glass.
All are decorated with gold trim on the rim and selected panels of the pattern around the body.
One of the more attractive early glass patterns in my opinion. The pitcher has a separate hand applied handle of the same color.
The underside of all 5 of the tumblers have been factory ground and polished so they sit level; a sure sign of quality made pieces of glass.
This same set (with 4 tumblers) is pictured on page 157 in the book
Riverside Glass Works of Wellsburg, West Virginia 1879-1907
    by C. W. Gorham.
The copy of the original factory catalog on page 153 describes the pitcher as a “1/2 Gal. Pitcher”.
This is the largest size pitcher made in this pattern.
According to this author the pattern was introduced in 1897.
The set has great color and is gorgeous as you can see from the photos!
The gold on the pitcher is in remarkable shape.
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
    Circa 1900.
A few words about hand-made glass:
Since each piece is individually hand-made there may be slight imperfections such as whether the piece sits perfectly level or is perfectly symmetrical.
There may also be some minor variations in color between pieces and factory blemishes created in the process of making the glass such as tool marks, straw marks, acid runs as well as bubbles, tiny stones and tiny black ash specs internal to the glass.
I will not mention these unless I notice them during checking or photographing the glass.
None of what I have mentioned in this paragraph is in any way considered damage.
The glass is all in excellent original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
Other than some wear to the gold trim the only condition issue is one extremely tiny flea bite to the rim of one tumbler; this is so tiny I did not even try to photograph it.
Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines, cloudiness or repairs.
I do see one bubble in the glass near the base of the pitcher and some straw marks to the handle of the pitcher, but these are in no way damage as mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
There are no heat checks or cracks at either point where the applied handle is attached to the piece.
All five of the pieces ring like a bell when I tap them with my ring.
I only see a very few light signs of use and some signs of wear to the underside of the feet of the tumblers; exactly what I would expect to see on pieces of glass of this age.
All in all, in remarkable shape for 110+ year old pieces of glass.
Please keep in mind these photos can be blown up at least 8X-10X times normal, so anything you see will look 8X-10X times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions
The pitcher is about 5.5” (14 cm) in diameter and sits about 11.125” (28.3 cm) tall at the spout; it is about 7.75” (19.7 cm) from the spout to the back of the handle.
The tumblers are each about 2.875” (7.3 cm) in diameter and sit about 3.875” (9.8 cm) tall.
    Approximate Weight
The pitcher is about 4 pounds 2.875 ounces (1.897 kilograms).
The tumblers average about 9.5 ounces (271 grams) each.
