    Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful PINK depression glass COOKIE JAR, made by Hocking Glass.  Hocking later merged with Anchor, a manufacturer of seals and closures for jars and bottles.  The Anchor Hocking Glass Company was created.  The pattern of this pink glass cookie jar is called MAYFAIR, aka OPEN ROSE.  A raised floral design appears on each of four wide panel, separated by vertical columns.  The same pattern appears on the lid, with a round-topped finial knob in the center.
When the lid is on, the cookie jar stands 7 1/2 inches (19.1cm) tall to the knob on the lid.  The base alone stands 5 1/4 inches (13.3cm) tall to the rim, and measures 5 inches (12.7cm) in diameter at the rim.  The lid extends outward over the rim; it measures 5 3/8 inches (13.7m) side to side, and 6 inches (15.2cm) corner to corner.  A U.S. quarter is shown in the third picture, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance.
There are no cracks, scratches, discoloration or cloudiness visible on the base or lid.  The base has a small chip (picture 7) and roughness at the rim (picture 8) and the lid has two larger but shallow chips (picture 9) on opposite corners.
The Mayfair pattern was reproduced in the 1970s, but this one is a genuine original from the 1930s, as shown by the eight-sided shape of the knob (pictures 9 and 10) and by the circular seam on the bottom (picture 11).  The 1970s copies have six-sided knobs and the bottoms are smooth with no circle.
