TAGLINE : "Six beautiful girls, trying to get ahead... when the curtains fall, five will be dead." PLOT SUMMARY : Samantha Sherwood has worked with the well-known director Jonathan Stryker on all his major films. She naturally assumes she has been given the title role in his latest venture, "Audra". He tells her that she nn needs to do some background research on the part, so arranges to have her committed to an asylum (as Audra is a former psychiatric patient). She goes along with this, not realising that he intends to leave her there indefinitely and audition six young women of various professions for the part instead. She finally manages to escape, and returns to the spooky old mansion where the auditions are taking place. But who is causing the disappearances of the young hopefuls?? Is it Samantha? Stryker? Or is one of the actresses willing to kill for the coveted part?? Just who is the killer behind the old-hag mask? BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA : Lynne Griffin wrote and performed her stand-up comedy routine in front of a live audience at the club Yuk Yuk's in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Lynne Griffin's mother Kay Griffin plays one of the inmates in the asylum. The climax as originally filmed had Patti performing her stand-up comedy routine on a stage with the bodies of her victims. This scene was eventually changed in a reshoot to Patti pretending to perform her routine in the asylum in front of the inmates instead. Lesleh Donaldson was doubled by a figure skater for the skating sequence on the pond. Donaldson was originally going to do this sequence herself and even had undergone training in a skating arena to do her own skating routine, but fell down on the bumpy ice on the day this scene was shot and cut her chin. Donaldson's skating double also played the killer in that same sequence. The opening credits give John Vernon's fictional director Jonathan Stryker credit as the films director. Director Richard Ciupka decided not to place his name on the credits. The character of Jonathan Stryker was patterned after Klaus Kinski. Shooting of the film started in 1980 but the production was plagued with problems. It was shelved for over a year during which re-writes, re-shoots, and at least one re-casting was done. The film was finally completed and released in 1983.VIEWER COMMENT : "Well how far would you go to become famous? Apparently, in this film it means murder. Great hidden slasher flicke with a few great death scenes. Not bad acting, and a creepy hag mask worn by the killer. Worth a watch!"
